Harp Sheet Music By Title

An arrangement for intermediate solo pedal harp of this traditional English folk song (or holiday carol known as "What Child is This?") by Susann McDonald. This elegant arrangement opens with a series of rolled four-finger chords in both hands, into which the melody is woven and proceeds through a short interlude of arpeggios and bass octaves to close with the melody played in haunting left-hand harmonics while the right hand plays an ornamental figure in the higher register on the harp.

Bertold Hummel (1925-2002) studied at the Music Academy in Freiburg i. Breisgau, taking composition with Harald Genzmer and cello with Atis Teichmanis. After his studies he toured from 1954 to 1956 as composer and as cellist. From 1963 to 1988 he directed the Studio for New Music, Würzburg, and in 1974 he became a professor. From 1979 to 1987 he was President of the Music Academy in Würzburg (after 1988 its Honorary President) and from 1982 Member of the Bavarian Academy of the Fine Arts. He lectured as a guest and travelled to performances of his works in Europe, in the USA, South America, Canada, CIS, Japan, Australia, Egypt and South Africa.

This classical favorite by Franz Josef Haydn has been arranged for two harps or harp and piano by Stephanie Curcio. The two parts interchange the moving melody while tossing the more chordal accompaniment back and forth.
