Although he was born in Naples, Domenico Scarlatti composed the majority his keyboard sonatas in Madrid while in the service of Maria Barbara, wife of the Spanish crown prince.
According to Daniel Burton: "His [Scarlatti's] sonata are in binary form and display a mixture of the lyricism of his native Italy and the rhythmic strength and harmonic freshness he found in his adopted homeland. Many of the sonatas, such as the three in this volume, adapt well to performance on the modern harp with only minor adjustments."
