The thematic material is based on Oh pourquoi donc, a song Liszt composed in 1844. The whole story is told in subtle harmonic shifts: The piece shifts from a G major / minor pairing, into B major, landing in the relative G#, into the pairing of A flat major / E major. The piece is ended in interruptions of E minor.

Seven short transcriptions of Liszt's piano music for pedal harp
Don't let the name "Liszt" scare you - these are not the fiendishly difficult types of pieces from which Liszt gained his notoriety. These are short, contemplative pieces all on religious themes of transformation meant to lift the spirit and soothe the soul. Could be appropriate for use in worship settings for prelude or interludes. Beautifully printed, fingerings and pedalings clearly marked. Arrangement of an 11th century Gregorian chant. It can be played by a solo lever or pedal harp or accompanying a vocalist. The arranger, Rhett Barnwell, recommends that the piece be performed in a free and unmetered style in keeping with its original style. The harp accompaniment to the melody has been kept simple, but uses chords and complete harmonies rather than a traditional counter melody.
